We have a winner!
Geology major and a minor in water Ireland McCall was awarded a $10,000 scholarship to support her education.
The Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA) Foundation awarded a $50,000 scholarship to eight college students who are in their third year at California State University (CSU) and University of California (UC) schools.
McCall, a junior at Fresno State, is one of the 4 top recipients.
The program supports students who want to work in the water industry in the future.
Here’s McCall in her own words
The AWCA Foundation scholarship allows me to solve real-world problems that need solutions through exposure to new subjects and learning experiences. It will enable me to further myself academically and professionally because I can focus on creating multiple networks and exploring different disciplines during my time at Fresno State.
The scholarship mitigates financial stressors and helps me acquire my bachelor’s degree in geology and minor in water while also allowing me to research subsurface water flow potential and groundwater recharge capabilities using new irrigation systems through my student internship position/thesis project.
This scholarship brings me closer to becoming a figure in the water industry that could make a notable difference for many communities.
