Event Details

River Park
Sunset - 10 pm

This is your chance to explore the night sky with the Central Valley Astronomers at River Park Sidewalk Astronomy

These events, held every month from March through October, offer a unique opportunity to observe the moon, planets, and other celestial wonders through a variety of telescopes. Whether you’re a seasoned stargazer or a curious beginner, this is the perfect way to get an up-close view of the cosmos, meet fellow astronomy enthusiasts, and share the excitement of discovery.

When & Where?

  • Time: Starting at sunset, lasting until about 10:00 pm
  • Location: “Via la Plata” street, right behind the REI building and across from the Edwards Theatre in River Park

Although River Park’s bright lights limit what can be observed, the Central Valley Astronomers focus on the moon and any planets that happen to be visible that evening. The star parties are scheduled to coincide with dates when the moon will be particularly prominent, giving us the perfect opportunity to showcase its beauty.

These events are open to everyone—alumni, students, and community members alike! However, please note that they can get quite crowded (they’ve had over 500 visitors on busy nights). The Central Valley Astronomers ask that you be patient and courteous to others as you enjoy the event with your friends and family.

This is a fantastic opportunity to connect with others who share your passion for science, and we’d love to see you there!

We look forward to stargazing with you!
