Over 120 Fresno State students, under the Center for Access to Science for All (CASA) banner, embarked on an inspiring journey to northern California in pursuit of a world of boundless healthcare career possibilities awaiting them after graduation.

The students attended UC Davis’ 2023 Pre-Health Conference, one of the nation’s largest events in healthcare education.

At the conference, the students networked with admission deans from health professional programs and engage with over 150 speakers who represented various healthcare careers across more than 20 professions within the healthcare industry, such as medicine, dentistry, genetic counseling, and dietetics.

Besides the meet-and-greet moments with industry professionals, the students also visited with more than 200 exhibitors attending the conference, including top medical schools such as UC San Francisco.

Workshops covering several healthcare areas, such as financing your pre-health goals and tailoring your resume to pre-health opportunities, enriched the students’ experience, providing them with an expanded view of the possibilities ahead.

“We were there just for the day, but our students had a wonderful experience exposing themselves to different graduate programs, universities, and health careers,” said Aldair Pimentel, CASA’s Outreach and Recruitment Coordinator.

CASA is an umbrella center under the College of Science and Mathematics, which houses several STEM programs, such as the Health Careers Opportunities Program (HCOP), Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP), and the Health Partnership Program (HPP). It provides a supportive environment and resources for STEM-leaning students.
