It was an Aaron and Aaron presentation.
Aaron Asparin and Aaron Chhun, senior biochemistry majors and Smittcamp Family Honors College students, took the front of the class at Ag Mechanics room 102 to present their research at the weekly Chemistry Seminar Series in front of their peers and professors.
Aaron Asparin
An Investigation of Effective Natural Supplements in Promoting Ethanol Soberness via Drosophila melanogaster
Asparin, popularly known as AJ, gave a talk entitled An Investigation of effective natural supplements in Promoting Ethanol soberness via drosophila melanogaster (fruit flies), a study on how certain natural supplements can help fruit flies sober up after consuming alcohol.
Asparin concluded that his research has several human applications, such as cost-effective alternatives to traditional alcohol abstinence therapy.
Aaron Chhun:
History and Contemporary Application of the Mitsunobu Reaction
On the other hand, Chhun shared his research about the history and contemporary application of the Mitsunobu reaction.
The Mitsunobu reaction is named after Oyo Mitsunobu, a Japanese chemist who developed the method.
This process converts alcohols into substances like esters, found in fragrances and flavors, or amines.
Chhun’s presentation provided an overview of the Mitsunobu reaction, a chemical transformation process discovered nearly half a century ago.
